What is Part 2?
Part 2 is an attempt at course correction. The league has outgrown its need for a draft to form teams, and the dependency on it has led to diminishing returns. Part 2 will allow 4 players to form their own team under a cap, so you can play with whom you want while still maintaining some competetive balance. Part 2 is a test run, but the basis of the plan moving forward for 2022 and beyond.
What is the cap for four players?
Each player has a value determined by their
wOBA + (KPI - WHIP) (
see the list of all players' values here). Weighted On-Base Average (wOBA) is the measure of their offensive value. The second half of the equation measures the pitching value with Strike Outs per Inning Pitched minus Walks and Hits per Inning Pitched. Only positive values for KPI - WHIP are counted; so if a player doesn't pitch or isn't good at pitching, only their offenseive number is used. The four player cap number is set by taking the average of all players plus 1/2 standard deviation, multiplied by four. I'm sure we lost everyone there with the math, but what you need to know is the cap is set at
1.600. You can have any combination of four players under that number.
Does Part 2 Count?
Yes, Part 2 will be considered an official season. Any stats accumulated will count toward your career total, and the Coffee Cup will be awarded for the second time in as many months.
We get to have 4 players. What if someone has to miss? Can we have replacements?
Yes, replacement players can be used. If one of your 4 players on roster has to miss a week (or even just one game), they can be listed as MIA. Their value will be subtracted from your team's cap, so you can add a replacement that's equal to or below their value plus any extra room you have. For example: if you have a .310 value player that can't make a week and have .090 in unused cap space, you could sign another player up to .400 to replace them for that week.
How about rookies? How will they be valued?
Rookies are always a wild card. They could be great. They could be okay. They could disappear completely. To simplify that and promote bringing in new players, rookies can be signed at one of two cap values.
1) Players who are brand new to wiffleball (never played in any wiffleball league before) are .150.
2) Players who have played in another wiffleball league are .300.
