Top 10 Pitchers After Week 10

by Evan Bischoff
1.)  Stephen Farkas  -  Alex See Yas
Even though he appears to be on the league’s worst team, Farkas is still the best in the league and one of the best in the country. Lowest ERA and WHIP in the league, and was one walk away from throwing 8 perfect innings against the Wolfpack on Sunday (Spoiler: His team still didn’t win, somehow). Not quite as overpoweringly dominant as last year with a slightly higher ERA (+.05) and WHIP (+.11), but still the No. 1 pitcher.

2.)  Evan Bischoff  -  Wicked Aces
Truthfully, I hate to put myself this high on the list. Statistically, I have had a very solid 2015 campaign. With the second best WHIP and ERA in the league, alongside a 9-1-1 record, a top 2 ranking seems appropriate. However, letting up 5 ER in the last four starts will prevent my ego from becoming too inflated while writing this article.

3.)  Craig Skinner  -  Flying Squirrels
Although he has fewer innings than in past seasons, he’s just as dominant as a Flying Squirrel as he was an El Diablo. He has allowed only 4 ER all season, tied for the league lead for those with 22+ IP. Sitting in the top 5 in both WHIP and ERA, Skin-flute is having the same mound presence wearing the baby blue.

4.)  Scott Kujawa  -  Red Cox
The White Asian is the only rookie to make this list and appears to be running away with the ROY award, mainly because of his dominance on the mound. After a slightly shaky start to the year, he hasn’t given up a run in the month of June. In his last start, he was also one walk away from PG’ing the Wolfpack. He started the year good and is only getting better.

5.)  Trey Jardine  -  Red Cox
Jam Boy Jardine is one of the few southpaws in the league and easily the most dominant. With a top 5 ranking in WHIP and ERA, he probably should be higher on the list. However, of his last three pitching decisions, two were losses. His 5-3 record just isn’t as cool as the 8-1 record of his teammate.

6.)  Travis Strojny  -  Wolfpack
After struggling greatly on opening weekend, Strojny has settled into the ace role nicely. When subtracting his first week jitters, he has an ERA of 0.78 and a WHIP of only 0.79. These totals would put him at ranking 6th in ERA and 3rd in WHIP. Unfortunately, he seems to face every team’s best pitcher on a good day and has a lowly record of 4-6-1.

7.)  Kevin Doby  -  Islanders
Many criticized Islanders management for trading away Fisher to get Doby. It’s hard to criticize now, though. Even though he doesn’t have pretty stats, Doby is pretty much single-handedly keeping the Islanders in the playoff race. He has 6 of the Islanders 9 wins, including 2 huge wins last weekend against the Squirrels and El Diablos.

8.)  Chandler Phillips  -  El Diablos
After settling in midseason, Phillips has gone cold. In his last three starts, he has gone 0-3 with a mediocre ERA of 3.16. With a league-leading 82 IP, it is possible that he is at least slightly fatigued, but he’d never admit that. Even with his recent struggles, Phillips still posts a top 10 ERA and WHIP on the season.

9.)  RJ Fisher  -  Holy Balls
Earlier this season, Fisher would have been in the Top 3. But with only 21 IP and 3 GP, he has been a non-factor for most of the year. He hasn’t played in a single game since the middle of May and has since then changed teams… twice. However, he deserves mention on this list because he is a dominant pitcher. He’s posted a 0.57 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP and still has a chance to make a huge difference in the remainder of the season. But he can only pitch when he shows up.

10.)  Sam Hatt  -  Wicked Aces
Hatt might be past his wiffleball prime, but he still is a force to be reckoned with on the mound. This year he has posted a solid 1.33 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP, ranking 7th and 6th in WSEM play. However, he has only 27 IP which is keeping him from being higher on this list. Not quite his 2012 form, but definitely still a respectable year from S. Hatt.

Twatter Rankings: Week 10

by David Castle
1. Whiteford Wicked Aces
Bye week for the Aces. They prepare for the Islanders and the Wolfpack week 12 at Poolside.
2. Flying Squirrels  1
An amazing 4-0 sweep on the day (Ed. note: The first of the season!) to gain a ton of ground in the Ringler. Their last series against the Cox will be huge.
3. Red Cox  1
Bye week for the Cox. They prepare for the Balls and See Yas in Southfield week 12
4. Wolfpack  1
A much needed sweep vs the See Yas to gain ground in the playoff race. Must see wiffle week 12 against the Aces and Islanders.
5. Islanders  1
They split 4 games and manage to stay alive in the playoff race. More and more, the Fisher trade doesn't look too bad.
6. El Diablos  2
It sounds like they might not be playoff eligible. They may have played their final games of the year last week.
7. Holy Balls
Panic mode for the Balls at this point, the needed a split last week and only went 1-3. They must split week 12 to stay alive.
8. Alex See Yas
They are pretty much out of it for this year, but Alexia does get to keep Farkas for $50 next year which seems unfair.

At 7th in team OPS El Diablos and Holy Balls play identical schedules this week. This is as close to head-to-head as we'll see the 2 teams down the stretch as they chase the Garcia Pennant. They tied their season series 2-2. The Fighting Chickens have a 7 point lead, but they've played 4 more games and are just 0.5 games up. After Sunday, El Diablos only have 1 series left to play. 3-6-1 in their last 10 games has been the roughest stretch of the season for El Diablos, and is not the wave you want to be riding into an important weekend. Measured against the Balls: winning 1 more of these 4 games will be key to helping El Diablos sleep during July. The first obstacle on that path are the Flying Squirrels. The Flying Squirrels have one head-to-head record this season that is over .500, and that is against El Diablos. Outside of 1 rough series against the Isles a few weeks back, the Squirrels have split every other series on the season. With a pitching rotation of Skinner and Brandon D'Agnese it's easy to see why they don't lose series; yet, it's strange to see they aren't winning more. A lot of that may have to do with bad calls their offense. The Squirrels are 7th across the board in team AVG, SLG%, and OPS - and even that is puzzling with bats like the D'Agnese brothers, Dylan Braden, and Brown in the lineup. So, we've answered a riddle with a mystery. Still, the Squirrels are in good position to make the playoffs. They currently sit in 4th place, in line for the play-in game, a similar result to last season... as well as every season the Squirrels have ever played: 4th in 2011, 4th in 2012, 5th in 2014. This same fate is not set in stone, though, as the the Cox or Aces are not out of their reach. Playing up for a 3 or 4 win day is required to get back in that discussion, though.

An up and down season continues for the Balls. Their longest winning streak is 3 games. Longest losing streak is the same. Over their last 2 weeks of play the Balls are 2-3-1, which has dropped them below .500. Although, they still find themselves in the playoffs. More good news: the 2 wins in that stretch came against their first opponents this week. Their pitching worries have been exacerbated by the 12 RA by Castle in his last 2 starts, though. They've tried to answer this with a trade for Fisher earlier this week, but his appearance Sunday is questionable. Speaking of trades: Doby and Giguere have been a shot in the arm for the Isles. Doby's only been with the team for less than a month, but his 11 RBI in Islanders' whites already puts him second on the roster. Giguere's was picked up a week later, and in 6 games with the team he's also climbed to second in the lineup with 18 TB and 3 HR. Change of scenery's been good for all the black-and-white, but sitting a game behind the Balls in the Wild Card hunt (and both with 6 games remaining after this week), the Isles need to avoid a repeat of the first set in this season series.

These 2 split their season series earlier this year. However, the Islanders no longer have Fisher on their roster and he was responsible - with both his arm and bat - for their win. That was a 1-0 pitchers' duel between Fisher and Farkas. El Diablos win came via a huge 10-run comeback after spotting the Isles a 7-run lead early. Can the Isles hold a lead? Will they try to play the matchups? Are Phillips and El Diablos' bats just too much?

Another 1-1 split season series, and again featuring a pitchers' duel and an offensive bonanza. The duel in this case, between Castle and Skinner, could have gone either way - and maybe should have gone the other way, if not for a call made in the field. Balls took the win in extras. Then the Squirrels struck back and put up 13 runs and 5 HR on the way to a blowout in the second game. Big questions: Do the Squirrels still hold a grudge? Can the Balls sort out their pitching? Who will hit the longest bomb?

The Wolfpack have been playing over .500 ball in their last ten games. That push has them nipping at the heels of the Wild Card, and only 1.5 games out of the Garcia lead. Strojny has an impressive 0.67 WHIP over that stretch, and Greg Brannan is slugging a cool .836 over the past 10 games is to lead the Pack. Meanwhile, it's desperation time for the See Yas as they sit 2 games back in the Wild Card, chasing the Holy Balls and this week's opponent, the Wolfpack. They need to win this series to have any shot at hanging around the race. Farkas threw a PG this year vs. the Pack, but who can pitch Game 9?

Twatter Rankings: Week 9

by David Castle
1. Whiteford Wicked Aces
43 points and a +66 run diff is really impressive. They might have both the MVP and Clown Shu on their squad... unfair.
2. Red Cox
They go 3-1 to match the Ringler leading Aces. They trail by just 1 point going into the home stretch...who will mess up first?
3. Flying Squirrels  2
They played really well at Poolside. They play the Balls week 10 in a can't miss match-up. Skin vs. Fish + Cass vs. D'Agnese.
4. El Diablos  1
They salvaged a game in Southfield. Not having a #2 arm is really hurting them at this point. Ship is still afloat... kind of.
5. Wolfpack  1
They remain in the playoff hunt by going 2-2 week 9. They should win 1 this week to remain in the thick of things.
6. Islanders  2
hey had a much needed bye week. They prepare to face the Balls and Blos... they'll have their hands full. ARRRRR!!!
7. Holy Balls
They remain at 7, they're going all in by getting Fisher. He's played on 3 teams this year, which might be telling.
8. Alex See Yas
Technically, they aren't out of it, but they did just unload Fisher, so I think they might be mailing it in, but who knows.
