The Islanders are searching for their first ever playoff berth, and the only thing standing in their way is the worst team in the league. And Stephen Farkas. And some potential tie-breaker scenarios – the Balls hold a 3-1 H2H record over the Isles, while the Isles have a 3-1 advantage over the Wolfpack; the Isles trail both opponents in run differential. The Islanders should come away with at least 3 points facing the See Yas, which should put them in semi-comfortable position to claim the #5 seed. You can bet on them rooting for a sweep while scoreboard watching the later Balls/Pack series, though. The See Yas are only the team mathematically eliminated from the playoffs entering the final week. Nevertheless, they have business as the fields. Namely, seeing Farkas attempt to break the single season strikeout record for the second consecutive season. Farkas sits just 7 K shy of the 251 K mark he set last year; so, it's more a matter of "when" he breaks it than "if."

The Flying Squirrels are locked in at the fourth seed, which will see them back in the 4 vs. 5 play-in game for the second consecutive year. With nothing at stake for the Squirrels in these games, expect them to focus on setting up their rotation for that must-win game on August 1. The Red Cox still have a shot at the Ringler Pennant and #1 seed. With the Squirrels potentially throwing less than 100% that may mean their chances are good, too. There's been chatter, though, that the Cox may be trying to avoid the Squirrels pitching staff in the 1 vs. 4 series. In which case they'll also not be trying to win these games in order to stay behind the Aces, who come into the final games with a 1 point lead. You can't blame a manager for playing the matchups: the Cox have a 3-1 advantage over both potential opponents in the 2 vs. 3 series, Wolfpack and Balls. So, don't blame them. But also don't be surprised if we see 2 of the best pitching staffs in WSEM sidelined or used in limited roles on Saturday.

This will likely be the most exciting series of the day as the 'Pack and Balls play heads-up for the #2 seed. The Wolfpack have a little extra breathing room holding the only win in the season series. The Holy Balls need to sweep this series to claim the number-two seed. They trail the season series 0-1-1, and find themselves 30 behind the Wolfpack in run differential – a number not likely to be overcome by even a positive 1-0-1 result that would even the head-to-head record. Failing the sweep, the Balls could still sit in good position to make the playoffs as the #5 seed, since they hold the H2H tiebreaker over the Islanders. On the other hand, although the 'Pack hold the slight advantage over the Balls in this series, getting 1 win may be even more important to them, seeing how the Islanders hold the H2H tiebreaker over them. That pretty much makes this an all-or-nothing shot for the Wolfpack: win the Garcia Division and get the #2 seed, or face a harsh likelihood of missing out on the playoffs.

El Diablos find themselves in an unfortunate position. They only managed to get 5 players on their roster to 7 GP: 1 short of the requirement for postseason eligibility. Meaning the team cannot advance into the playoffs no matter how they finish the season. However, El Diablos still have something to play for. Division pennants are an award for winning the regular season, and El Diablos control their own destiny when it comes to winning their third consecutive Garcia Pennant. Another bonus provided by the matchup with the Wicked Aces is the opportunity to prevent the Aces from winning their third consecutive Ringler Pennant at the same time. The Aces sit in the driver's seat for the #1 overall seed, and rumors still circulate that that could be theirs without a fight. A showdown between two of the most successful franchises in WSEM history could be a marquee series to close down the 2015 regular season, but will it happen?
